FARM OVERVIEW

Rosegarden Group of Farming Community, located in Meppadi, Wayanad, has been a beacon of traditional farming excellence since its establishment in 1967. This picturesque estate spans 36 hectares of Robusta coffee, spices and is intercropped with fruit trees. Kuruvilla Joseph, who Co-owns and manages this community held coffee plantation takes pride in preserving traditional farming techniques that have stood the test of time. These methods have not only ensured maximum yields but have also contributed to the farm's enduring success.

The community farm is renowned for its coffee production, which has maintained constant high productivity over the past four decades. The quality of Robusta coffee beans produced at Rose garden group of Farming Community is highly esteemed in the industry and is known for the best robusta beans and unique flavour.

The Estate serves as a model farm for numerous plant, nutrition companies due to its excellence in agricultural practices. Its commitment to maintaining soil health and plant nutrition has attracted attention and partnerships from organizations striving to promote sustainable agriculture. The estate also hosts educational tours led by Kuruvilla Joseph, welcoming scholars, scientists, and students from esteemed institutions like the Coffee Board, Swaminathan Foundation, and agricultural universities. These visits provide practical know how, opportunities for research, PhD projects, and collaborative initiatives.

Mr. Kuruvilla Joseph, of Rose Group of Farming Community, has 40 years of experience in coffee plantation and 20 years in inter-cropping exotic fruits. He has received the Lychee Ratna Award for best winter lychees. The area holds mangosteen, rambutan, lychee, pulasan, avocados, dragon fruit, and spices like pepper and nutmeg. Direct marketing is done without mediators. Uniqueness of the estate includes:

  • Robusta coffee S.274, CxR, high yielding robusta , Vietnam TR9&11, dwarf robusta and the new mm coffee .
  • Exotic fruit trees as intercrops for shade
  • Pepper and nutmeg as other intercrops
  • 100% irrigated coffee estate with sprinklers, utilizing rainwater harvesting systems to cover the entire area
  • Good drying yards, solar tunnel dryer, and mini curing unit
  • Coffee sold as clean coffee; husk used for composting (50% of area applied annually)
  • Produces specialty coffee like do, washed coffee and honey washed .
  • Timely cultural operations; productivity is 1250kg clean coffee/Ac.

Awards received include Best Diversification Coffee Grower (2023), Best Coffee Planter Award (2019, 2024), Coffee Planter of Excellence, Great Planter Award (2005), Lichi Ratna Award (2016), and Metha Innovative award (2022-23).

This community along with Kuruvilla strictly maintains the same farming practice to ensure the same quality of coffee is produced and boasts an annual yield of approximately 80 to 90 tons of clean coffee and around 50 tons of spices and fruits which stems from the estate's dedication to sustainable agricultural practices.
