Entomology

Researching coffee pests and developing eco-friendly, sustainable pest management strategies.

About the Division

The Division is dedicated to studying key coffee pests and developing ecologically feasible management strategies. Major pests include Coffee White Stem Borer (CWSB), Coffee Berry Borer (CBB), Shot Hole Borer (SHB), and other sucking pests.

Key achievements include the identification of the male sex pheromone of CWSB for trap-based control, development of physical and cultural methods like bark scrubbing and lime application, and mass trapping technologies using Brocatrap and Xycom traps.

Beyond research, the Division provides training, pest diagnostics, bioagent supply, and field advisory services, supporting sustainable pest management for the coffee industry.
