CCRI has until now released 13 Arabica and 3 Robusta selections for the benefit of the planting community. On the eve of Centenary Celebration, CCRI will release two more Arabica selections (Selection 14 - A new tall Arabica variety tolerant to Coffee White Stem Borer and Selection 15 - A new high-yielding, rust-tolerant, semi-dwarf Arabica variety).
The variety S. 4595, developed by crossing Sln.11 and HdeT, recorded very low incidence of Coffee White Stem Borer (CWSB) and high field tolerance to leaf rust. Bioassay studies indicated the Coleopteran pest, fails to complete its lifecycle inside the plant. Dead larva inside the tunnels were observed under microscopic examination. Systematic monitoring of these populations in 18 locations across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu- validated the tolerance to CWSB in this interesting Hybrid.
