The variety S. 4595, developed by crossing Sln.11 and HdeT, recorded very low incidence of Coffee White Stem Borer (CWSB) and high field tolerance to leaf rust. Bioassay studies indicated the Coleopteran pest, fails to complete its lifecycle inside the plant. Dead larva inside the tunnels were observed under microscopic examination. Systematic monitoring of these populations in 18 locations across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu- validated the tolerance to CWSB in this interesting Hybrid.

Highlights:

  • The variety is the only Arabica genotype showing tolerance to Coffee White Stem Borer.
  • The variety is tall, a moderate yielder (1200- 1400 kg ha-1) with a cup quality score of 72- 77.
  • Highly suitable for marginal areas as it is found to be rust and CWSB tolerant.
Sln.15 (S.5086):

The variety S.5086 is a F1 developed by crossing Chandragiri and Sln.10, with an objective of integrating SH3 gene into the popular variety of Chandragiri.

Highlights:

  • The variety is the first to be released under F1 strategy wherein elite and promising F1 hybrids will be used for commercial cultivation.
  • The variety is an improved Chandragiri, fortified with rust tolerant gene to boost its durability and Productivity.
  • The variety is an improved Chandragiri, fortified with rust tolerant gene to boost its durability and Productivity
  • The yield ranges between 1600-1800 kg/ha.
  • The variety is known for its exemplary cup quality, with score of 79- 80
  • MLT with seed progenies is also showing superior performance in field.
