Session: IFS Model: Planters Speak
Shri Mohammad Amanullah is a proud name that has achieved new milestones in Indian agriculture through hard work, innovative thinking, and a commitment to excellence. Born in 1956 to the couple Abdul Jaleel Saheb and Fatima Bee, he shaped his life through dedication and became a model of success.
At just 10 years of age, he began his journey as a laborer in the Koppa and Mudigere regions of Chikkamagaluru district. From 1968 to 1995, he worked as a daily-wage worker at the Sigappayya & Brothers Estate. Later, from 1995 to 1998, he engaged in agricultural activities in Banavasi of Uttara Kannada under the guidance of Dr. Abdul Rauf Sheikh.
In 1998, using his vast experience as a foundation, he began his own farming. Initially, he cultivated short-term crops such as pineapple and ginger on small leased lands, and gradually expanded his agricultural enterprise to nearly 100 acres.
In 2004, he purchased his first 23-acre land in Mankalale village of Sagara taluk. This marked a bold shift from short-term crops to long-term integrated mixed farming. Drawing from the experiences of the arecanut price crash in 1972 and the coffee price crash in 2001, he understood the risks of depending on a single crop. He therefore adopted diversified farming practices to prevent losses caused by natural calamities or market fluctuations and to turn agriculture into a profitable venture.
By strategically cultivating arecanut, coffee, silver oak, and black pepper in suitable areas, avoiding internal competition, and using scientific farming methods, he successfully built a model plantation that yields high productivity.
One of Shri Amanullah’s major accomplishments is the establishment of a model farm created through scientific planning, integrated mixed cropping, and adaptability to changing conditions.
His achievements and innovative agricultural methods have earned him numerous honors:
Today, Shri Amanullah successfully manages 75–80 acres of mixed-crop farming and is regarded as a pioneer of diversified agriculture. Through his model of farming, he has clearly demonstrated the importance of diversity and sustainability.
Beyond his personal success, he serves as a resource person for the farming community and several institutions. He continues to inspire the youth by showing how agriculture can be transformed into a dynamic and profitable enterprise. His international recognition stands as proof that even in agriculture, the seemingly impossible can be made possible. Shri Mohammad Amanullah is truly an exemplary figure.
