Promoting sustainable coffee cultivation and eco-friendly practices in Assam’s North-East region.
Coffee was introduced in the forest hills of the North-East region during the 1950s, primarily to protect the fragile ecosystem and provide gainful employment to local tribal communities, reducing their dependence on traditional shifting (Jhum) cultivation.
A regional station was established in 1985 near Diphu, Assam, on an area of 25 hectares, aimed at developing suitable production technologies for coffee cultivation in the region.
