Soil Testing

Soil analysis has long been a reliable method for evaluating soil fertility and guiding nutrient management in coffee cultivation. Through systematic soil sampling and laboratory testing, farmers can determine nutrient availability and plan precise fertilizer applications to achieve optimal yields. Using soil test–based recommendations help improve productivity, reduce input costs, and ensure environmentally sustainable farming practices. It enables balanced nutrient application, preventing both deficiencies and excess use of fertilizers.

Traditionally, soil testing services have relied on paper-based systems to deliver recommendations, which can limit efficiency and accessibility. Recognizing this, the Central Coffee Research Institute (CCRI), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management – Kerala, has developed a Soil Nutrient Management Information System for Coffee.

This digital platform provides location-specific fertilizer recommendations and serves as a decision support tool, helping coffee growers adopt precision nutrient management for improved productivity and sustainability.
